Global Water Awards will be presented in Berlin in April

Paques has been nominated as “Water Technology Company of the Year” in the Global Water Awards 2011 of Global Water Intelligence (GWI).

Paques is responsible for 6.6 million tons of CO2 reduction per year. The biogas produced by its 830 anaerobic installations worldwide is equivalent to the annual natural gas consumption of 1.7 million households.

GWI cited the following three reasons for Paques’ nomination in the “Water Technology Company of the Year" category:

  • Paques has developed an unparalleled portfolio of technologies that derives value from waste;
  • In addition to pioneering anaerobic wastewater treatment for biogas recovery, the company has developed technologies for nitrogen and phosphate removal (for recycling as struvite fertilizer), sulfide and sulfate removal (and recovery as elemental sulfur) and heavy metals recovery; and
  • 2010 saw the commercial launch of anaerobic flotation reactor technology, which optimizes biogas generation from effluents with high fat and suspended solid content.

“We are delighted to be nominated in this prestigious industry award. We hope that our activities and achievements form an inspiring story for the industry and we are encouraged by the positive response it is generating,” said Rob Heim, managing director of Paques.

The awards will be presented by Kofi Annan, former secretary general of the United Nations, at a special ceremony to be held in Berlin, on April 18 in conjunction with the Global Water Summit 2011: Focusing on Performance.
