Rural residents are opposing Ontario's Safe Drinking Water Act as they fear some of the regulations if not amended could do more harm than good.
The act requires church halls, businesses and anyone serving water to others to install a purification system.
Randy Hillier of the Lanark landowners association thinks that beyond the costs, there are problems with some of the regulations, such as calling for chlorination on some systems. He says that's hazardous to human health, the 580 CFRA News Talk Radio reported.
The city's rural and agricultural affairs committee will hear from the ministry of the environment at its Thursday meeting. The committee wants several changes saying the regulations go too far.
