American Water Sponsors Raritan Watershed Clean-up

Sept. 1, 2005

The Applied Water Management Group of American Water announced it will sponsor a Raritan Watershed Clean-Up on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005.

As one of New Jersey’s top planning, engineering and construction firms, The Applied Water Management Group is actively involved in environmental maintenance. “The Raritan River is literally our next-door neighbor,” said Jens Riedel, P.E., senior project engineer of The Applied Water Management Group. “As water and wastewater professionals, we are especially concerned about preserving local water quality. We hope that our volunteer efforts will result in cleaner, healthier water for the entire community to enjoy.”

The Raritan Watershed Region includes all streams and tributaries along the North Branch Raritan River; South Branch Raritan River; Elizabeth River; Rahway River; Woodbridge River; Lower Raritan River; South River; Lawrence Brook and Millstone River. The counties which are located within the watershed area include parts of Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Somerset and Union.

The clean-up will take place at two locations in a portion of the watershed upstream from American Water’s Canal Road and Raritan-Millstone water treatment plants, beginning along the South Branch Raritan River and ending at the Royce Brook in Van Middlesworth Park. At 10 a.m., The Applied Water Management Group’s volunteers will meet at the South Branch of the Raritan, Pleasant Run Road between Hillsborough and Branchburg, to remove trash and debris from the waterway and streambank. Following clean-up activities along the Raritan, volunteers will move to the portion of Royce Brook running through Van Middlesworth Park.

A post-clean-up barbeque is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the headquarters of the Applied Water Management Group located in Hillsborough, NJ. For more information, contact Jens Riedel at 908-431-7068, or [email protected].
