WWEMA Supports National Infrastructure Development Bank Bill

Aug. 31, 2011

Bill would create an innovate public-private partnership that would invest in infrastructure projects

The Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Assn. (WWEMA) sent at letter to Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., expressing its support of her bill: the National Infrastructure Development Bank.

The bill would create an innovate public-private partnership that would invest in and insure infrastructure projects while creating more than 427,000 new construction, engineering and contracting jobs across the nation.

Modeled after the European Investment Bank, it would leverage private sector dollars to invest in transportation, environmental, energy and telecommunications infrastructure projects.  It currently has 61 co-sponsors.

WWEMA stated in its letter that the legislation would be great for American cities that face a $500 billion investment gap in drinking water and wastewater needs.

WWEMA also cautioned against including any restrictive policies in the bill that could hurt U.S. competitiveness.
