Worldwide Pump Sales to Remain at $32 Billion USD

March 16, 2009
Municipal water and wastewater markets to increase by $12 billion together

Despite the recession, sales of pumps in 2009 will remain at the 2008 level of $32 billion worldwide. There will substantial reductions in revenues in some markets but gains in others. This is the conclusion reached by the McIlvaine Co. in the latest analysis in Pumps World Markets.

Centrifugal pumps will be the biggest product group in 2009. Rotary pumps will edge the diaphragm segment with $1 billion more in revenues. Reciprocating pump sales will be slightly lower than sales of diaphragm pumps.

Some industries will show increases. They include municipal water and municipal wastewater. Combined, these two markets will generate $12 billion in revenues. The stimulus funding in the U.S. and China are the main drivers for this market increase.

The power market will remain flat, but there will be decreases in chemicals, mining, metals, refinery, stone and pulp and paper. Asia will show modest increases, whereas the European market will shrink.
