World Water Day 2012

March 19, 2012

World Water Day is just days away. Held every year on March 22, World Water Day is recognized by the United Nations and communities all over the world.

The event reminds us that water shortage and poor sanitation still loom in developing countries, and that improving sustainable access to safe drinking water can reduce poverty, disease and hunger for millions around the world.

The Food and Agriculture Organization is this year’s coordinating agency for World Water Day. The organization will host the official World Water Day 2012 ceremony at its Headquarters in Rome on March 22. A variety of speakers will offer their perspectives on this year’s topic, “Water and Food Security.”
