Wisconsin Awards Development Gants of $2.2 million

The City of Stanley, in Chippewa County, Wis., has received a $400,000 block grant from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce to extend a sanitary sewer and water main to the project site for Victory Medical Center, a non-profit hospital.

The Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities for Economic Development will help stimulate the growth of this project to promote the development of the Health Care Industrial Cluster in line with the state's Build Wisconsin economic development initiative, Gov. Scott McCallum said in announcing the award.

The Victory Medical Center will construct a new facility that will meet code and life safety requirements and will provide room for future expansion. The project will retain 121 full-time positions and 39 part-time positions and leverage $12.8 million in additional investment.

In other awards, the Village of Merrimac, in Sauk County, will receive a public facilities grant totaling $750,000 to fund construction of a new re-circulating sand filter and to upgrade five lift stations. The total costs for the project are $2 million.

The City of Shawano, in Shawano County, will receive a public facilities grant of $688,800 to help fund a $1.7 million project to make improvements to its downtown, including street reconstruction, sidewalk repairs and water and sewer main repairs.

The City of Montreal, in Iron County, will receive a public facilities grant totaling $336,900 to install water and sanitary sewer main and to make street improvements in a $731,500 project.

The Community Development Block Grant Program administered by the Department of Commerce awards grants to communities that seek to provide infrastructure for a particular business development project.
