A growing number of utilities are opting to provide their customers with electronic billing and payment solutions. This comes as no surprise because implementing new and innovative payment options and advanced billing systems can reduce expenses, grow revenue and help retain customers through improved customer service.

Led by electric utilities, the trend is definitely gaining momentum across various industries, including water. There are even further advancements into this online service environment as customers not only are transitioning from paper to electronic billing, but also are taking advantage of smartphone applications.

I don’t know about you, but just for a moment I can’t help but marvel at how far technology has come in the last decade. It is hard to even speculate what comes next. What do you think?
