Water Security Summit to Focus on Safeguarding the Nation's Drinking Water

Nov. 30, 2001

The Water Security Summit, a nonprofit, national conference attracting world-renowned experts in various aspects of the security of our water systems, will be held in Hartford, Conn., on December 3 and 4. More than 25 water security experts are confirmed to speak and more than 600 professionals from across the United States have already registered for this summit.

Water agencies from around the United States are lobbying Congress for billions of dollars to safeguard the nation's drinking water. The Water Security Summit aims to foster increased communications between legislators, water utilities, engineers and government authorities for the protection of the nation's water distribution systems.

The goal of the conference is that participants will

• gain a better understanding of the important issues related to water security so that they can develop robust security plans and thoroughly evaluate water system vulnerability;

• develop guidelines for implementing security plans; and

• leverage existing federal, state and private resources.

The two-day event will include presentations and panel discussions from the foremost experts in water quality, bioterrorism, system vulnerability and crisis management.

This nonprofit event is organized by Haestad Methods, a water resources software, training, and publications company.
