The Water Environment Federation (WEF) has been named to the 2010 Associations Advance America Honor Roll for its public education initiative, Water Is Life, and Infrastructure Makes It Happen. Sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and The Center for Association Leadership, the national awards competition recognizes organizations whose programs and activities propel the nation forward.
“WEF is deeply honored to receive this recognition from ASAE and The Center for Association Leadership,” said WEF Executive Director Bill Bertera. “While water infrastructure typically goes unnoticed, its services and benefits are relied on by every American. Through Water Is Life, WEF hopes to raise awareness about this important issue and help communities build public support for investing in their water infrastructure.”
Now in its 20th year, the Associations Advance America Awards recognize innovative projects in education, skills training, standards setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship and community service. WEF’s Water Is Life program was honored for raising awareness about the value of our nation’s water infrastructure and the need to invest in its long-term stability. Through the initiative, WEF has provided educational resources to communities across the country; promoted the PBS documentary, Liquid Assets: The Story of Water Infrastructure, and brought together different interest groups for discussions on this topic.
“WEF’s program truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign,” said Ping Wei, chair of the Associations Advance America Committee and ASAE’s Director of Educational Opportunities. “It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase the Water Is Life program as an example of the many contributions associations are make to advance American society.”
