American Water Awarded Contract for Picatinny Arsenal

American Water Works Co. Inc.’s Military Services Group has been awarded a contract for ownership, operation and maintenance of the water and the wastewater systems at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J. According to the agreement, the award is estimated at a gross amount of approximately $297 million over a 50-year period. The contract will be subject to annual economic price adjustments.

"American Water is extremely pleased to be awarded this contract and we look forward to serving the military community at Picatinny Arsenal”, said Sharon Cameron, president of American Water Enterprises Inc. “We will now be serving 11 installations across the country and are committed to providing our servicemen and women and their families with reliable, high quality water and wastewater services for the next five decades and beyond.”

American Water's Military Services Group, which is reported as part of American Water’s Contract Operations Group, also operates and maintains the water and/or wastewater assets at Fort A.P. Hill, Va., Fort Sill, Okla., Fort Leavenworth, Kan., Scott Air Force Base, Ill., Fort Rucker, Ala., Fort Meade, Md., Fort Belvoir, VA., Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Polk, La. and is currently completing the transition phase of its January 2014 award at Hill AFB, Utah.

“Picatinny Arsenal is very important to the nation’s defense, providing products and services to all branches of the U.S. military, and we are honored to be a part of its mission for the foreseeable future”, said Jimmy Sheridan, president of the Military Services Group. 

The Military Services Group of American Water provides water and wastewater services to military installations across the country as part of the federal government’s Utilities Privatization Program.

Located about 35 miles west of New York City, Picatinny is one of the largest employers in Morris County, employing about 3,900 civilians, approximately 100 military personnel and about 1,000 contractors. Approximately half of these employees are engineers and scientists.  Picatinny specializes in the research, development, acquisition and lifecycle management of advanced conventional weapon systems and advanced ammunition.
