Virginia Beach Department of Utilities Selects Citect for Water Utility Project

Dec. 1, 2005

Citect and its Platinum Integration Partner, Edison Automation, have been awarded a contract exceeding $1.5 million by the Virginia Beach Department of Utilities to upgrade its water and sewer pump station monitoring system. Citect will provide engineering and software in excess of $500,000. This is the third major CitectSCADA installation in six months at a large water/wastewater pumping and treatment facility. McKim & Creed will also participate in the joint engineering project.

"CitectSCADA's redundancy provides the reliability required for integrating our systems," said Mike McCarthy, Public Utilities Engineer, City of Virginia Beach. Beating several competitors, Citect was chosen for its superior ability to backfill data.

Citect and Edison Automation will integrate the water and sewer control systems to create a single integrated solution with redundant CitectSCADA servers for backup. The CitectSCADA system will access data from over 400 pump stations serving the wastewater system. It will also provide data from seven pump stations used for water collection and distribution and a raw water pump station at Lake Gaston, over 75 mi from the control center.

The CitectSCADA system is easily scalable to meet the city's future needs without requiring major system changes and utilizes many new features of Version 6.0, including the Process Analyst and Web Client. The Process Analyst is a unique visualization tool combining trends and alarms in a single display available to every level of the enterprise.

"Citect's vast experience with water and wastewater facilities combined with its 20-year upgrade history assures customers their initial investment will be protected for years to come," said Darren Trumeter, president of Americas, Citect.
