U.S. Mayors Support Flint, Mich., Mayor During Water Crisis

Mayors also urge presidential candidates to develop wastewater systems in metropolitan areas
Led by the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) president, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the nation’s mayors, while in Miami Beach for their winter leadership meeting, will stand with Flint Mayor Karen Weaver and support her call for state and federal assistance for the residents of Flint, Mich. On the heels of a U.S. Conference of Mayors fact-finding mission to the city of Flint as well as last week’s Democratic Steering & Policy Committee’s Congressional hearing on the Flint Water Crisis, the mayors will receive a report from Mayor Weaver, USCM CEO & Executive Director Tom Cochran and former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, who were designated by Mayor Rawlings-Blake to lead the conference’s fact-finding mission. The mayors will also stress their “metro” agenda, The 2016 Mayors’ Compact for a Better America: A Call to Action, which calls on presidential candidates and Congress to invest in and protect America's cities and metro areas. Developing healthy, safe, affordable and modern water and wastewater systems is one of the key items on the mayors’ agenda. The mayors are convinced that despite their geographic location, cities large and small across over the country are plagued by many of the same challenges.
