U.S. EPA Administrator to Be Keynote Speaker at Water Utility Security Event

U.S. EPA Administrator Christie Whitman is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at a luncheon held at the Association's Water Security Congress, March 23-26, 2003 in Los Angeles, California.

Established in 1881, AWWA is the oldest and largest nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to safe drinking water in North America. AWWA has more than 56,000 members worldwide and its 4,500 utility members serve 80 percent of America's population.

"We are thrilled that Christie Whitman is able to share her insight and guidance on the critical issue of water security," said Jack Hoffbuhr, AWWA executive director. "As utilities continue to safeguard their systems through vulnerability assessments and increased security measures, input from top level administrators such as Whitman is essential."

The AWWA Water Security Congress is an opportunity for water utility professionals to learn, network, and share ideas. The event will also feature seminars from some of the leading water security experts in the nation. Topics will include implementing results of vulnerability assessments, water quality monitoring, legislative and research updates, crisis decision making, and threat identification and response. Whitman is scheduled to speak at the luncheon on Tuesday, March 25, 2003.
