June 9, 2006

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Stephen L. Johnson will talk about the importance of water efficiency and stewardship of water infrastructure at 9 a.m. Monday, June 12 during the Opening General Session of the American Water Works Association’s Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE06) in San Antonio, Texas.

The AWWA conference—the largest of its kind in the world—is expected to draw more than 12,000 water quality professionals, utility managers, equipment manufacturers, environmental advocates and others from throughout the water community to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

Administrator Johnson, who assumed leadership of EPA in May 2005 after 25 years in the agency, has made the development of innovative, market-based and sustainable solutions for water infrastructure financing and management among his highest priorities.

At 10 a.m. local time (central), following his ACE06 address, Administrator Johnson will introduce a new water efficiency program at a news conference at the grotto (river level) outside the convention center, 200 East Market St.
