Upper Guadalupe River Authority Recognized for Water Testing

Lab received certificate for 100% acceptable data in study

Analytical Products Group, Inc. has recognized Texas’ Upper Guadalupe River Authority (UGRA) for its efforts in evaluating bacteria in drinking water, the Kerrville Daily Times reported.

The UGRA lab, which evaluates E. coli and total coliform bacteria in the Guadalupe River, received a certificate of achievement for having 100% acceptable data in a microbiological study that included 119 other laboratories.

“We’ve worked hard to make this a top-tier environmental laboratory,” said Esther Salyers, UGRA lab manager. “Not only do we hold a certificate for drinking water, but we also must meet restrictive requirements to serve as a contract laboratory for the state’s Clean River Program.”

The Texas Clean Rivers Program (CRP) is a state fee-funded program for water quality monitoring, assessment and public outreach. The CRP, a collaboration of 15 partner agencies and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, provides the opportunity to approach water quality issues within a watershed or river basin locally and regionally through cooperative efforts among diverse organizations.

“This recognition is a testament to the teamwork demonstrated by current UGRA staff,” said Ray Buck, UGRA general manager. “With the support of the board of directors, UGRA staff has diligently worked toward making the UGRA lab an environmental laboratory par excellence.”

UGRA, which holds TCEQ certification for analyzing drinking water, can currently perform 25 chemical and biochemical and six microbiological tests.
