Tyco Water Secures Export Contract

Aug. 4, 2004

Australian steel water pipe manufacturer Tyco Water Pty Ltd, a business unit of Tyco Engineered Products & Services, secured its first major export contract into the Middle East, beating international competition to win a significant deal worth USD $35 million.

Under the contract, more than 13,000 steel water pipes will be manufactured at Tyco Water’s world-class plants in Perth and Brisbane, and shipped to the United Arab Emirates to become the key component of a project to transport desalinated water from the capital Abu Dhabi, to the eastern regions of their country.

Tyco Water’s Manager Marketing Steel Pipeline Systems, Mr. David Brady, said the contract further proved the technical advantages and world competitiveness of Tyco Water’s innovative water pipeline technology.

"What set us apart from all the other suppliers was the speed of construction offered by our patented SINTAJOINT rubber ring joint system. The pipes are manufactured with a coating of polyethylene that wraps around the end and under the rubber ring joint. No welding or corrosion protection of the joint is required in the field. The 12 meter long pipes are joined together in minutes, literally," Mr. Brady explained.

This ease of construction comes without compromise to the pipeline performance.
