Thompson Pump Selected for Project in Hollywood, Fla.

May 4, 2009
Project required pumps and wellpoint dewatering

ABC Construction, based in Miami, selected Thompson Pump to handle the bypass pumping of a critical storm water pump station located in Hollywood, Fla. The original scope of work was for Thompson Pump to provide a turnkey installation of two Thompson Pump sound-attenuated Silent Knight 6JSC pumps. The pumps were to pick up rain events and send water to a common 12-in. collection manifold and then on to an 18-in. gravity waterline that flows to the intercoastal waterway.

Once on site, the Thompson Pump bypass-specific representative, Bill Baker, recognized that this project would not only require more than two pumps but also required wellpoint dewatering due to the tidal underground flow from the nearby intercoastal waterway. Baker immediately contacted fellow Thompson Pump employee and wellpoint dewatering expert Pat Kennedy. Upon explanation of the situation, Kennedy re-routed right away and headed to Hollywood to meet with a City of Hollywood engineer and personnel from ABC Construction.

To properly perform the successful bypass, Thompson Pump provided four Silent Knight bypass pumps, two wellpoint pumps, settling tanks, auxiliary fuel tanks, pneumatic pipe plugs, hoses and piping. All was provided as a turnkey system—the contractor on the job was assured that the bypass and dewatering would be fully and successfully handled by the dewatering provider.
