Tennessee American Water Installs Pipe in Chattanooga

April 21, 2016
The leak originated in a 30-in. main under the Tennessee River

On April 4, Tennessee American Water identified a leak as coming from the 30-in. main under the Tennessee River that delivers water to north Chattanooga, Tenn. The company mobilized resources to begin restoring the line. Within 24 hours, Keystone Clearwater Solutions delivered nearly 1700 ft of 24-in. HDPE. The pipe was fused together at the plant.

While this repair took place, a temporary water pipe was laid across the Walnut Street Bridge for additional water delivery to the area. Tennessee American Water pulled nearly 1600 ft of pipe weighing 113,000 lb from one riverbank to the other.

Tennessee American Water recently put into service the new pipe underneath the Tennessee River. The temporary pipe on Walnut Street Bridge and the detour and barricades had been removed Friday evening, April 15, in preparation for the weekend pedestrian traffic.
