SWPA Releases 2003 Pump Shipment Data

April 14, 2004

U.S. shipments of dry pit submersible pumps increased a formidable 39.7% in 2003, according to the Submersible Wastewater Pump Association (SWPA).

Other pump shipping statistics released by BWPA include those for grinder pumps (13.8% increase) and solids handling pumps (0.5% decrease).

Breaking down grinder pumps into two categories, shipments of 2-hp and lower grinder pumps increased 11.7%, while 3-hp and over grinder pump shipments increased by 28%.

The largest gain in shipments of solids-handling pumps was in the 9—12-in. discharge size category, which showed a 17.9% increase from the previous year. Shipments in the 6-in. discharge category rose 6.6% in 2003, and shipments in the 4-in. category rose 3.9% compared to 2002. Shipments in the 3-in. discharge category fell by 7.3%, and shipments in the 8-in. category fell by 17.4%.

The data comes from the Association's Statistical Reporting Program, which provides quarterly data on submersible wastewater pump shipments for municipal and industrial applications by type and size and semi-annual data on the destinations of those shipments.
