CST Awarded Contract for Saudi Arabian Project

Company will provide 28 domes across the kingdom in 2016

CST Covers has announced the design and manufacturing of 28 domes for Saudi Arabia’s National Water Co. (NWC) Strategic Reservoirs project.

NWC is currently developing water infrastructure projects in Riyadh, Jeddah and Makkah. These projects are aimed at raising operational efficiency and coverage ratios in densely populated areas and keeping up with water demand and the provision of services in accordance with global standards.

CST—on behalf of its local authorized representative in the Middle East, CTS—was awarded 12 52-m domes, 6 107-m domes and 10 110-m domes. The domes are scheduled to be supplied and installed during the remainder of 2016. Out of the ten 110-m domes, four of CST Covers’ OptiDome domes are being supplied. The flush batten OptiDome is an aluminum geodesic dome that incorporates the engineering experience and heritage of Temcor and Conservatek.

CST’s OptiDome design complies with torsional buckling requirements that have been adopted by Eurocode, 2010 Aluminum Design Manual and International Building Code 2012. The double-web I-beam, combined with aluminum’s strength-to-weight ratio, provides reliable performance under stringent environmental conditions. They are easy to install, require little sealant and are available in exposed or non-exposed sealant at the nodes.

To date, two of the four OptiDomes have been constructed and are in full operation by NWC. The third dome has been installed but not yet released to the NWC. The fourth dome is in its final stages of construction and should be completed in the near future.
