State of Kansas Revokes Certification of Local Water Lab

Oct. 2, 2001

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has revoked the certification of a Pittsburg, Kansas, water quality testing laboratory because authorities say the lab manipulated data submitted to the state.

They issued an Emergency Order of Revocation against the state certification of Quality Water Analysis Laboratory Inc. (QWAL) in Pittsburg on Sept. 28 as a result of findings revealed by a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Criminal Investigations Division investigation of QWAL.

Principals of QWAL have signed statements to the U.S. Attorney's Office admitting that they manipulated analytical data knowing such data would be used in reports submitted to the state of Kansas.
