Southern California's Water Supply Will Be Debated

July 23, 2002

With the drought in the Colorado River Basin, the Colorado River Board of California CRB is sponsoring a workshop to explore the question: "What is Southern California's water supply expected to be next year?"

This workshop, which will take place on Wednesday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be held in the Board Room at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) headquarters, 700 N. Alameda St., adjacent to historic Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

The workshop will focus on the severity of the current drought in the Colorado River Basin, next year's water supply outlook and the role that California's Colorado River Water Use Plan and water transfers will play. Water officials from the State of California, the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Colorado River Basin States and local water agencies will participate in the workshop to discuss water conditions along the Colorado River and California's outlook for receiving sufficient water from the Colorado River to satisfy its demands in 2003 and beyond.
