Shawnee, Kan., Selected as "Digital City"

April 19, 2016
City's mobile app and website allow information flow to citizens
Cityworks congratulated the city of Shawnee, Kan., on being selected as a Digital City by The Center for Digital Government in the small city population category. A major factor contributing to their selection is the city’s public-facing portal to their customer relationship and public asset management platform, made possible by the combination of Shawnee Connect and Cityworks. This mobile app and website allows citizens to report problems quickly, view recent service requests, and work with other citizens on fixing problems in 19 different categories. A GIS-centric street condition rating map provides citizens a unique view of city infrastructure. Receiving the award is "just a great opportunity to be recognized," said Mel Bunting, the city's director of information technology services. "Infrastructure is very important to the overall well-being of not just the agency itself, but to the community." “Cityworks has become a key component to managing and directing government services,” said Brian Haslam, president and CEO of Azteca Systems Inc. “We congratulate the city of Shawnee for achieving success as a Digital City, and we are pleased Cityworks contributes to the betterment of communities across the country. Smart cities come from smart decisions, and we continue to work hard to help our customers achieve their goals.” Shawnee soon hopes to apply a second phase of Shawnee Connect, allowing businesses and residents alike to manage their requests and applications from a single, centralized app.
