Severn Trent Services has obtained NSF Certification for its ClorTec line of on-site sodium hypochlorite generation systems. The NSF/ANSI (American National Standards Institute) Standard 50, Circulation System Components and Related Materials for Swimming Pools, Spas/Hot Tubs, is the nationally recognized standard for health effects and performance for all equipment and materials commonly included in water circulation and treatment systems for residential and public swimming pools, spas and hot tubs. The Standard 50 certification is applicable to the MCT and CT models up to 300-lbs/day capacity within the ClorTec product line.
NSF International, founded in 1944 as the National Sanitation Foundation, is known for the development of standards, product testing and certification services in the areas of public health, safety and protection of the environment. ANSI has served as administrator and coordinator of the United States private sector voluntary standardization system for more than 80 years.
Over the years, public and private pools and spas have increasingly gained in popularity. Pool and spa safety can be affected by water quality and equipment performance. Severn Trent Services pioneered the application of on-site sodium hypochlorite generation in 1988, and since that time, more than 3,000 successful installations have been made worldwide. On-site generation is a cost effective, reliable and economical disinfection method for the aquatics industry. The ClorTec on-site hypochlorite generating systems range in capacity from 12 to 3,000 lbs/day, easily generating a 0.8% sodium hypochlorite solution by combining three common consumables -- salt, water and electricity -- to produce a chlorine equivalent. Benefits of the ClorTec system include its safe and reliable chlorine process, low operating and maintenance costs and low raw materials usage. The system also reduces the cost of pH adjustment and eliminates dependence on chemical suppliers.
