Inversand Co. has allowed scientists and volunteers from the New Jersey State Museum, Drexel University, the Academy of Natural Sciences and the Delaware Valley Paleontological Society to dig in its mine pit in Gloucester County, N.J., where they have discovered many prehistoric fossils, including that of a 65 million-year-old "side-necked" sea turtle tentatively identified as Taphrosphys sulcatus.
The Inversand Co. site is mined for glauconite, used to create the company's municipal and industrial water filtration media.
