San Antonio Water Systems Approves Aquifer Water Storage System

July 19, 2002

San Antonio Water Systems board members on Tuesday approved construction of a water storage and recovery facility.

The 7.3 billion gallon storage system will include a water treatment plant, 32 wells, and a 30-mile pipeline.

The facility, which will be located in Southeast Bexar County, is designed to store large amounts of water from the Edwards Aquifer for hot, dry summers when the probability of water restrictions are high.

Construction is expected to be completed by 2003.
