RJN Group Conducts Sanitary Sewer Study for Illinois City

Dec. 10, 2014
The city selects a portion of its collection system for sewer inspection every year

RJN Group Inc. (RJN) recently began work on Phase Three of a sanitary sewer evaluation survey (SSES) for the City of Carbondale, Illinois. Each year the city selects a portion of its collection system for sewer inspection to identify defects in the collection system that may be contributing to excess inflow/infiltration and flooding.

For this phase of the SSES, RJN will be investigating nine sub-basins comprised of 172,500 linear ft of pipe and 758 manholes. The investigations that RJN are performing include manhole inspections, smoke testing, dye testing and map updates. Segments that need cleaning will be identified, along with areas where dyed water flooding and closed-circuit television are necessary to confirm pipe defects.

From the findings of the investigations, the city will develop a budget for the following year to rehabilitate defective structures and pipes. The project is set to be completed by April 2015.
