The one-minute, on-site test for cadmium reduces operational testing time and cost
ANDalyze bolsters its DNA-based sensor/Fluorimeter platform solution for simplifying the on-site testing and analysis of water for heavy metal contamination with the addition of a cadmium (Cd) sensor. This expands its capabilities, which already include sensors for lead (Pb), copper (Cu), Mercury (Hg), uranium (U) and zinc (Zn). The product, which requires no special knowledge of chemistry to use effectively and produces no hazardous chemical waste, is used in a variety of water quality applications such as the testing of mining runoff water, groundwater, surface water, industrial waste waters and sea water.
The ANDalyze solution consists of consumable sensors in combination with the ANDalyze Fluorimeter, which can interpret both existing sensors and all future sensors. Measuring the metal ions is done through a reaction that occurs when a water sample containing a target metal ion contaminant (such as cadmium) is introduced to a DNAzyme sensor specific for that contaminant. The test is performed by taking a water sample, injecting it through the sensor housing, and into the Fluorimeter. The reaction produces fluorescence (light) in direct correlation to the amount of metal ion present. The amount of light is measured by the fluorimeter. This method greatly reduces the time and effort required by older technologies. This advantage creates a cost savings for organizations that are responsible for water testing of public drinking water supplies, environmental water sources or industrial water operations.
