Every year, on March 22, we celebrate World Water Day. This annual event highlights the importance of water and focuses attention on sustainable water management practices.
According to UN Water, more than 780 million people do not have access to reliable sources of drinking water and 2.5 billion people are without reliable sanitation. With the world population expected to grow from a little over 7 billion today to 8 billion by 2025, water withdrawals are expected to increase by 50% in developing countries and by 18% in developed countries.
In recognition of World Water Day, GE’s water business released an infographic that illustrates a day in the life of a water droplet. This educational tool highlights facts such as how many gallons of water are used to process common household products and the average world water footprint per person per year.
It is more important than ever to implementation of responsible water management strategies. Our water supplies are not endless. In order to ensure high-quality water availability for generations to come, everyone from the federal, to state, to local, to consumer level must make a pledge to conserve water.
