PPG Industries announced a spill of approximately 8,600 gallons of partially treated wastewater into Sooky Creak, a tributary of Swearing Creek in North Carolina.
According to the Dispatch Online, the spill originated at the company’s wastewater treatment plant in Davidson County, N.C.
The event is currently being investigated by the North Carolina Division of Water Quality, which was notified the day of the spill.
Environmental inspectors from PPG have not found evidence of harmful effects downstream from the site of the pill. The company also stated that the wastewater had already been treated prior to the spill.
