Leading Researchers to Speak at AWWA Symposium

2017 International Symposium on Inorganics to be held March 21 to 22

The American Water Works Assn. (AWWA) announced that registration is open for the 2017 International Symposium on Inorganics to be held March 21 to 22 in Detroit. Attendees who register for the conference by Feb. 21 will receive discounted pricing.

In response to recent events in Flint, Mich., the symposium will focus on lead and corrosion control, risk communications, best practices for sampling and controlling lead release in distribution systems, and regulatory updates for the U.S. and Canada.

Featured researchers and speakers will include:

  • France Lemieux, Health Canada's head, Materials and Treatment Section, Water and Air Quality Bureau, who will share updates on the proposed updated guideline for Canadian drinking water quality;
  • AWWA’s Director of Federal Relations Steve Via, who will provide an update on the U.S. regulatory landscape; and
  • Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha of Hurley Medical Center's pediatric residents program and professor of pediatrics and human development at Michigan State University's Flint-based College of Human Medicine.
