Industry groups issue statements of support for the Water Protection and Reinvestment Act

Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) held a press conference July 15 to announce his plan to introduce legislation to create a Water Trust Fund (the Water Protection and Reinvestment Act).

Several groups issued statements of support, including Food & Water Watch, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Associated General Contractors of America.

Stephen Sandherr, chief executive officer of the Associated General Contractors of America, released this statement following Blumenauer’s press conference:

“While our water infrastructure is often out of sight and out of mind, failures in the system threaten our health, our environment and our economy. That is why the 33,000 member companies of the Associated General Contractors of America, along with their millions of employees and families, support establishing a Water Trust Fund and doing it now.

Our water infrastructure program is critical to every single family in America, and each should be guaranteed water that is clear and pipes that are sound. This critical infrastructure program needs the adequate and reliable source of funding that a trust fund would provide, and Congressman Blumenauer is setting the stage for a debate that is long overdue. After all, there isn’t a community in this country that doesn’t rely on clean, healthy drinking water, wastewater and storm water management for its very success and survival.”
