The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) approved $82.5 million in low-interest loans and $13 million in grants for 56 drinking water, wastewater and stormwater projects to serve communities in 34 counties across the Commonwealth.
The grants, provided under the "Growing Greener" initiative, were targeted at 10 prohibitively expensive projects to bring them within the financial reach of their customers.
The state funding approved at today's PENNVEST Board meeting ranges from $95,650 to design a seven mile wastewater line extension and related facilities for a community in Jefferson County, where malfunctioning on-lot septic systems are contaminating the local water supply, to $11 million to acquire, upgrade and expand a privately-owned sewage treatment plant in Carbon County, in order to eliminate a wastewater contamination threat to groundwater and lakes in the area.
The funding for these projects brings PENNVEST'S total funding for community water and sewer projects to more than $2.9 billion since the program's inception.
