Orange County Water District Helps Sponsor $2,500 Water Scholarship

Jan. 24, 2002

The Orange County Water District (OCWD) is looking for students to apply for a $2,500 water scholarship.

The Water Scholar 2002 is a scholarship sponsored by OCWD, the California Water Awareness Campaign and other California water agencies. Students interested in applying for the scholarship must be a senior in high school or a first-year college student exhibiting interest -- or pursuing a career -- in the water industry.

Applications are due March 15, 2002, and can be obtained by accessing the California Water Awareness Campaign website at www.wateraware.org or by calling OCWD at 714/378-3228.

For the third year in a row, the California Water Awareness Campaign and other water agencies in California are offering the water scholarship to students interested in a career in the water industry. Recipients of the scholarship not only receive a monetary contribution toward their studies but are also given the opportunity to learn more about water and careers in the field.

Students who apply will be asked to complete a general application along with an essay demonstrating their interest in the water industry. In addition, the student must provide transcripts from their high school or college and two letters of recommendation.

Winners of the Water Scholar 2002 will be invited to Sacramento in May 2002 to participate in Water Awareness Month activities where they will be recognized and awarded their scholarships at the State Capitol. Students with questions regarding the Water Scholar 2002 may contact Jenny Glasser at 714/378-3228.
