A First for the Industrial Water Market in Asia

Ondeo has been chosen by the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park (SCIP) as its partner for the new petrochemical industrial park of Shanghai. A joint venture has been formed between Sino French Water Development, a subsidiary of Ondeo and the Hong Kong based New World Group, and the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park.

Ondeo Industrial Solutions, a wholly-owned Ondeo subsidiary, will be responsible for designing, financing and managing water treatment installations and services for the park's industrial effluents. The contract duration is 50 years and is expected to generate revenue of over EUR 600 million.

Total investments will reach over EUR 50 million for an effluent treatment volume of 50,000 m3/day. Currently covering the treatment of all wastewater from the industrial site, the contract may be extended to the management of the complete water cycle and solid waste. SCIP is home to some of the world's largest chemical groups including BP, BASF, Bayer, Huntsman as well as major Chinese industrials such as GAO QIAO.

This new industrial success follows Ondeo's contract win last July to manage water services for the Shanghai Spark industrial zone over a 30 year period. The scope, contract length and originality of the SCIP joint venture confirms SUEZ' strategic intentions for its global solutions in the industrial services market.

This new contract further strengthens Ondeo leading position and presence in China where it currently manages 10 long-term water contracts in the provinces of Guandong (Tanzhou, Zhongshan and Lianjiang), Liaoning (Shenyang and Changtu), Jilin (Siping), Henan (Zhengzhou), Hubei (Baoding), Jiangxi (Nanchang) and Hainan (Sanya). With the SCIP contract, Ondeo now manages 20 water treatment facilities in China. Ondeo's engineering services division, Ondeo Degremont has built 118 water plants in China over the last 20 years for an estimated population in excess of 10 million people. In 2000, Ondeo activities in China represented global revenues of approximately 300 million euros.
