ONDEO Nalco Researcher Wins Award From the International Water Association

Oct. 23, 2001

Dr. William McCoy, Manager of Global Research for ONDEO Nalco, has been named the winner of this year's Outstanding Contribution to Water Management and Science Award from the International Water Association (IWA). The award, which recognizes an outstanding and innovative contribution of international impact, relating to leadership, systems operation or technical innovation, was presented today at the IWA's World Water Conference in Berlin, Germany.

Dr. McCoy was recognized for his lifetime of work, including the invention and development of STA-BR-EX, an environmentally sensible chlorine replacement useful for microbial fouling control in cooling towers, condensers, heat exchangers, and paper machines. As part of a comprehensive biomanagement program, this new technology eliminates the hazards and byproducts associated with the use of chlorine.

McCoy began his career at Nalco in 1992 as Research Scientist and then as Group Leader in Cooling Water Research Department. In 1994, he was promoted to Technical Director of Nalco's Microbiology Research Department. He was named Manager of Global Research in 2000. Dr. McCoy helped build ONDEO Nalco's Global Microbiology Department into a world class research organization focused on industrial water treatment. He was the architect of the BioManage approach to microbial control and contributed to the technical training of more than 1,200 sales representatives around the world.

"We are very proud of Dr. McCoy's accomplishments throughout his career at ONDEO Nalco," said Christian Maurin, Chairmmicals with 10,000 employees working with more than 60,000 customers in 120 countries and annual revenues of $2.8 billion.
