NGWA Webinar Series to Address Water Well Microbiology Issues

Series consists of three webinars: May 6, May 27 and June 10

As part of the 2009 webinar series offered by the National Ground Water Association (NGWA), Smith-Comeskey's Ground Water Science, Ltd.'s Stuart A. Smith, CGWP, will conduct three independent hour-long presentations on "Ground Water and Well Microbiology: Water Well Microbiology Issues."

The first presentation, May 6, 2009, is a brief primer on naturally occurring microorganisms in ground water wells and springs. Topics of discussion include practical testing methods for bacteria, as well as total coliforms and other health-related microflora.

A presentation on May 27 will discuss measures to take to prevent or slow biofouling or microbial contamination in wells and associated water systems.

The last presentation of this series will take place June 10. Topics include chlorination and other treatment methods, along with a review of maintenance practices that can delay the need for well rehabilitation or repeated treatments. All three presentations begin at 11 a.m. E.T.

Public health officials, sanitarians and environmental engineers, in addition to water well contractors, should all benefit from the webinar series.
