Workbook prepares students for fundamentals of water engineering and exams

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)’s new publication, Water Engineering with the Spreadsheet: A Workbook for Water Resources Calculations Using Excel, by Ashok Pandit, gives students a solid foundation in using spreadsheets for water engineering applications.  Pandit presents 90 problems, easy and difficult, that cover fluid mechanics, hydraulics, hydrology and storm water management. The print edition comes with a CD with unlocked spreadsheets that provide hands-on experience with Excel.  The e-book edition is accompanied by a downloadable .zip file for the Excel files.

Topics covered include force calculations under static and dynamic conditions, pipe design, and pipe network analysis; open channel flow; normal and critical depth calculations; channel designs and transitions; lake evaporation; unit hydrographs and S-hydrographs; convolution and deconvolution; reservoir and channel routing; and analysis and design of storm water management systems for land development. This workbook prepares students for the fundamentals of water engineering and exams; practitioners will also find the ready-to-use spreadsheets convenient for professional practice.
