More Than 400 Green Roof Professionals Accredited by GRHC Since 2009

Jan. 19, 2011
Organization also announced Living Architecture Regional Symposium to take place in April

Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) announced that there are now more than 400 accredited Green Roof Professionals (GRPs) conducting business in the marketplace since the first exam was launched in June 2009. These individuals have successfully completed a multi-disciplinary exam encompassing five areas of concentration, including pre-design, design, contract management, quality assurance and support, and maintenance. GRP accreditation verifies that the individual has attained the level of interdisciplinary knowledge of best practices associated with the successful design, installation and maintenance of green roof systems. GRP accreditation also provides continuing education credits for AIA, ASLA, APA and LEED. All GRPs are listed on GRHC’s website, www.greenroofs.org.

Expanding upon the need for continued growth with the marketplace, GRHC, along with DC Greenworks, the General Services Administration, the Landscape Architecture Foundation, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the District of Columbia, are also announced the 2011 Living Architecture Regional Symposium in Washington, D.C., on April 11 and 12.

The Regional Symposium will focus on how to derive the maximum benefits from these technologies as well as explore their enormous Green Jobs potential from a policy standpoint. Expert industry speakers will be combined with a one-day trade show featuring the latest green roof and wall products and services. The second day will feature training for GRP accreditation and ongoing professional development. Leading-edge courses on urban rooftop food production and integrated site and water management will be presented. The new advanced maintenance half-day course also will be launched.
