Microchip Technology Makes It Easy to Create Electronic Utility Meter Applications

Oct. 20, 2005

Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, has launched its new online Utility Meter Design Center. The Web site provides engineers with technical tools and resources needed to create accurate, reliable and low-cost utility metering applications, including energy, water, gas and heat meters.

"Microchip continues to see a growing opportunity in electronic metering applications worldwide -- and our new Utility Meter Design Center helps simplify the metering design process and speed the design cycle for our engineering customers," said Bryan Liddiard, vice president of marketing at Microchip. "Microchip offers a broad product portfolio that includes devices dedicated to metering applications and innovative solutions that address critical design features, such as accurate power measurement, low-cost display interfaces, low power consumption, remote communication and billing."

Microchip's Utility Meter Design Center features charts that take the user through all of the building blocks and considerations in creating a utility metering design, whether it is gas, water, heat or power. An "Introduction to Metering" supports those who are new to electronic design, offering an overview of the migration from mechanical meter designs to electronic-based solutions. The design center also features complete access to all of Microchip's metering application notes, reference designs and other technical documentation to help engineers get their products to market more quickly and efficiently.
