The American Membrane Technology Association (AMTA) and their affiliate, the Southeast Desalting Association (SEDA), are organizing and conducting Membrane Week, the AMTA/SEDA 2008 Joint Conference & Exposition, held July 14 to 17, 2008, at the Naples Grande Resort & Club in Naples, Fla. The conference will be one of the largest and most comprehensive membrane events ever held in the United States.
People with all levels of knowledge or interest in membranes will benefit from this conference. Current membrane engineers or users can learn the latest techniques to keep up with state-of-the-art technologies while also fulfilling their licensing requirements. This conference has approval from Florida and several other states for CEU credit.
All types of membranes will be covered—membrane bioreactors, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, brackish water reverse osmosis, seawater reverse osmosis desalination, electrodialysis reversal and more. The exhibit hall nearly sold out, with over 70 exhibitors who are all global leaders in membrane and desalination. These exhibitors have varying roles within the industry: engineers, organization leaders and manufacturers of various products, systems and components.
The conference will commence on Monday, July 14 with two pre-conference workshops, which are sponsored by the National Water Research Institute and the Affordable Desalination Collaboration. Throughout the next three days, there will be over 80 presentations in concurrent sessions, followed by committee and board meetings. These sessions are filled with information about various membrane technologies, including sessions that focus on just the basics for novices. Presentations will also cover various components used in membrane plants, such as pumps, energy recovery systems, controls, pre-treatment and post-treatment. Several sessions are also dedicated to planning, permitting, procurement and financing membrane plants. There are also sessions that are geared directly for membrane plant operators and supervisors.
As a part of the conference, two membrane facility tours are planned. This is the chance to get an up-close view of two large membrane plants. This will also provide an opportunity to get some hands-on training and ask questions of those who already have experience with membrane technology implementation.
Registration forms will be available at the AMTA website: www.amtaorg.com.
