Massachusetts Rep. Carolyn Dykema will speak June 10, 2014 to elected and appointed leaders from across North America about her state’s approach to addressing water infrastructure during the American Water Works Assn.’s (AWWA) Public Officials Breakfast & Caucus at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
The event is part of AWWA’s Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE14), which will bring an estimated 11,000 water experts to Boston June 8 to 12, 2014.
Dykema will discuss Massachusetts’ legislative progress on water infrastructure issues and the newly formed New England Water Innovation Network. She will be joined by Frederick Laskey, executive director of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, who will talk about “The Struggles of the Forgotten Infrastructure,” and AWWA Deputy Executive Director Tom Curtis, who leads the association’s Washington, D.C.-based Government Affairs office.
The event is sponsored by Calgon Carbon, Jacobs, Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and Wachs Water Services.
The Public Officials Breakfast & Caucus—free to public officials registered for the conference—is part of a broader public officials program at ACE14 that includes 12 hours of certificate training. There are many other sessions of interest to public officials in the larger program, including an address from former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani during the opening general session at 9 a.m. June 9.
ACE14 public officials events include:
- • Public Officials Breakfast & Caucus (Tues., June 10, 8 to 11:30 a.m., Level 1 - Room 151, Boston Convention & Exhibition Center)
- • Public officials hear from local and national speakers and discuss common issues during this popular annual event. The breakfast is complimentary for public officials registered at ACE14.
- • Public Officials Certificate Program (June 8 to 10, 1 to 5 p.m. each day, Level 1 - Room 152, Boston Convention & Exhibition Center)
By participating in three four-hour courses, public officials registered at ACE14 have an opportunity to earn the AWWA Public Officials Certificate. The course on June 8 is “Introduction to Water and Sewer Operating Environments”. The course on June 9 is “Water and Sewer infrastructure, Operations, and Maintenance.” The course on June 10 is “Sustaining Your Water and Sewer Utility for the Future.” Renowned water educator and author Frederick Bloetscher, PhD, P.E., will teach the courses. Public officials may register for all three courses to earn the certificate or take individual courses.
Those wishing to register for the Public Officials Breakfast & Caucus and/or the Public Officials Certificate Program may register online or on-site at the registration desk at the conference. Only registered ACE14 attendees may participate in the public officials events.
