McCrometer Introduces Advances Smart Output Communications

New mag meters simplify AMR & AMI implementation

With new advanced plug-and-play real-time Smart Output communications, McCrometer’s FPI Mag flowmeter, SPI Mag flowmeter and Ultra Mag flowmeter all provide an effective solution for automatic meter reading (AMR) and advanced meter infrastructure (AMI) in support of utility smart grids that help conserve valuable water resources, reduce expensive nonrevenue water costs and simplify daily operations and routine maintenance.

McCrometer offers versatile Smart Output mag meter solutions that are Sensus or Itron system compatible for nearly every type of AMR and AMI application. These mag meters are available for line sizes from 4 in. to 138 in. in hot-tap or full-bore styles, which can be solar/battery or AC/DC powered.

“Smart Output technology from McCrometer gives utilities the option to install a highly accurate magnetic flowmeter in areas where they might not have been able to do so in the past and connect it directly to their AMI system,” said Brittany Halterman, senior product manager for McCrometer. “Additionally, Smart Output helps utilities execute district metering and identify nonrevenue water through leak detection.”

Smart Output mag meters from McCrometer are designed with an intelligent module in their transmitters that is similar to a communication protocol. This capability allows McCrometer mag meters to transmit data on a schedule or on demand, as well as receive diagnostic queries to ensure or update meter operation. There is no need for technicians to gather flow data manually or check meter status with the company’s Smart Output mag meters.

This technology is backed by the company’s more than 60 years of solving flow measurement problems. It gives water utility managers the flexibility they need to network the flowmeters across their distribution systems with the AMI solution of their choice.
