Kevin Carroll, a best-selling author, speaker and agent for social change will deliver the keynote address during the Opening General Session of WEFTEC 2013 this fall in Chicago. The opening session will kick off the Water Environment Federation’s (WEF) 86th Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference, a five-day event that is expected to draw thousands of water quality professionals and exhibitors to McCormick Place, Oct. 5 to 9, 2013.

As the founder of Kevin Carroll Katalyst/LLC and the author of three highly successful books, including Rules of the Red Rubber Ball, What’s Your Red Rubber Ball?!, and The Red Rubber Ball at Work, Carroll works to inspire businesses, organizations and individuals—from CEOs and employees of Fortune 500 companies to schoolchildren—to embrace their spirit of play and creativity to maximize and sustain meaningful personal and professional growth.

Specifically, Carroll will apply his philosophy to WEF’s mission and use an outside perspective and “best in class” examples to provide a unique set of tools, resources and ideas that will help give WEF and its members a much needed “spark” to remain inspired, passionate and intentional about the important work of the water sector.

“WEF has an immense sense of pride in what our members do and we remain committed to inspiring and challenging water professionals to be united in purpose and to strive for greater levels of success,” said WEF Executive Director Jeff Eger. “We can only benefit from taking a fresh look at what we do, why we do it, and how we do it—both personally and professionally. Mr. Carroll’s unique approach to life and business is exactly what is needed to help inspire and motivate the water sector towards more innovative and creative approaches to water management.”

Scheduled for Monday, Oct. 7 in Room S100, Grand Ballroom of McCormick Place, the opening session will also feature remarks from 2012-2013 WEF President Cordell Samuels and recognition of the 2013 Stockholm Junior Water Prize winners.

As largest annual water quality conference and exhibition in the world, WEFTEC 2013 will feature 140 technical sessions, 27 workshops and an exhibition that currently features 883 companies using more than 300,000 sq ft of floor space—the largest in WEFTEC history.
