Engineering Program
The new BioFlowsheet Solutions+ program is designed to ensure an effective and economical solution for wastewater treatment applications. Siemens’ process engineers work with a municipality’s consulting engineer to evaluate effluent requirements, land availability and site-specific factors such as energy use, labor costs and sludge disposal needs. The result is a treatment system that serves the owners’ requirements with a real value provided.

Wastewater Treatment Plants
Layne Christensen Co. and WSI Intl. are working together to provide high-efficiency, scalable, custom-engineered wastewater treatment plants. Standard plant sizes range from as large as 1 mgd to as small as 6,000 gpd. During aeration, these plants use a proprietary media to increase surface area and promote biological growth. This enables the reactor to carry up to four times the biological load. These turnkey plants are designed to produce R1 water under Title 22.

UHMW Panel
JWC has created an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene perforated panel, similar to the panels used on the high-capture efficiency Bandscreen. A benefit of this design is the reduced chance of debris “stapling” (or hair-pinning) on the abrasion/wear/corrosion-resistant panels. With less debris sticking to the panels, the design reduces the use of panel cleaning brushes and maximizes the efficiency of the existing spray-wash system.

UV Reactor
From the WEDECO product line, the LBX Series closed vessel UV reactor for wastewater and reuse applications is designed with the end customer in mind, offering critical standard features and convenient options. Designed for disinfection by providing effective dose delivery at rated flow, engineers developed the LBX by focusing on three critical elements for UV system performance: the UV lamp, the power supply/controls and the engineered vessel.

Turbine
The PlasmaWhirl turbine integrates aeration, biosolids gasification and UV disinfection. The process utilizes dual plasma systems. First, an electro-plasma system gasifies unpressed sludge (3% solids), which is steam reformed in a second plasma torch—the ArcWhirl—which is then internally cooled with wastewater effluent and irradiated with UV light from the carbon arc. The hydrogen and steam plasma are injected into the lean combustion chamber and the oxygenated exhaust is used to aerate wastewater influent.

Flowmeter
This suite of electromagnetic flowmeter test instruments includes two stand-alone instruments: a verification tool and a validation tool. The CalMaster 2 tool verifies calibration to within ±1% while the magmeter remains in operation. The 15-minute test covers the primary sensor, transmitter and connected shielded cable. The CheckMaster unit is useful for contractors or large municipal users to provide printed proof that the tested flowmeter components have all been installed properly.
