Hydroxyl Systems Awarded Royal Caribbean Contract

Jan. 24, 2006

Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. awarded Hydroxyl Systems, Inc. a $6 million contract for the turnkey supply of two Hydroxyl CleanSea advanced wastewater purification systems onboard Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises vessels.

Under the contract, Hydroxyl Systems begins simultaneous installation of the two CleanSea systems in January with scheduled completion in June 2006. The CleanSea wastewater treatment systems will effectively process all black water and grey water generated aboard the 2,500 passenger Radiance of the Seas and 2,000 passenger Celebrity Summit cruise vessels. As a result of implementing Hydroxyl’s technology, Royal Caribbean will reliably exceed stringent Alaska state environmental regulations by 50% for effluent discharge within sensitive aquatic environments along the Alaskan coastline.

“Hydroxyl Systems is extremely proud to be selected as Royal Caribbean’s environmental technology partner for these high profile wastewater treatment projects,” stated Hydroxyl CEO Gord Hannigan. “The award of this contract underlines Royal Caribbean’s confidence in Hydroxyl’s capabilities, based on over four years experience of working together. We have demonstrated that Hydroxyl has the people and robust technology to execute this new contract. We are committed to enabling Royal Caribbean to reliably exceed stringent environmental standards at the best value offered in the marketplace.”

The announcement continues Royal Caribbean’s commitment to environmentally responsible operations, and is in support of the company’s Save The Waves corporate waste management policy. The new CleanSea systems are in addition to two Hydroxyl wastewater systems already in operation in Royal Caribbean’s fleet onboard the Enchantment of the Seas and the Vision of the Seas cruise vessels.

"In Hydroxyl, Royal Caribbean has an advanced technology solution and business partner that enables us to continue to demonstrate leadership in environmentally responsible operations within our industry," said Royal Caribbean vice president of Newbuilding & Fleet Design Peter Fetten. “Following a comprehensive review of available technologies, Hydroxyl Systems clearly offered one of the best technological approaches for our needs on these important projects.”
