Peter Hyde, chief engineer with Black & Veatch’s global water business, has been honored with the “Friendship Award” conferred by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs in China. Hyde collected the Award on Sept. 29 at a ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China. The ceremony was presided over by Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu.

The award, which was launched in 1991, is the top award given by the Central Government to foreign experts. It has been conferred on more than 850 international specialists who have worked in China and recognizes those foreign experts that have made significant contributions to China’s modernization drive.

Hyde was nominated by the Songliao Water Resources Commission for work he performed for the commission as the international team leader on the Songhua River Flood Management Sector Project. This is an Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded project that seeks to reduce flood damage through improved integrated river basin management and upgrading of flood protection infrastructure, including heightening and reinforcing of 540km of flood control dikes and the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing reservoirs for wetland management and water storage.

“Mr. Hyde made an impact on the project from the moment he arrived,” said Mr Li Jinxiang, deputy director of the Songliao Water Resources Committee. “His extensive experience, conscientious working style and humanitarianism contributed greatly to those who worked on the project along with those who knew him socially.”
