More than 1 billion people around the globe participated in Earth Day 2012, which took place on Sunday, April 22.
Now in its 42nd year, Earth Day celebrates environmental awareness and progress by uniting activists of all nationalities and backgrounds to urge individuals, organizations and governments to do their part to protect the planet.
This year’s Earth Day focused on putting an end to fossil fuel subsidies, embracing renewable energy technology, improving energy efficiency and making energy universally accessible.
Of course, environmental protection would not be possible without making overall greener life choices, and that includes addressing water issues.
With more than 1 billion people lacking access to adequate water supply and more than 2 billion without basic sanitation, events such as Earth Day are a great way to help raise awareness about water and environmental issues around the world.
The staff of Water & Wastes Digest wishes you all a happy Earth Day.
