Fate of Perrier to be Decided by End of Month

Sept. 8, 2004

A final decision on the fate of the famed Perrier bottled water operation, which its owners have considered selling, will be made "by the end of September," the head of Nestle Waters said.

But Nestle Waters chairman Frits van Dijk refused to make any further comment as he inaugurated a bottled water research and development center recently in eastern France.

Nestle Water is a unit of the Swiss food conglomerate Nestle.

Nestle Waters, which has controlled Perrier since 1992, has been weighing its sale for several months, notably as it has faced union opposition to its plan to eliminate 1,047 jobs in France from a total of 4,100.
